Libation - The Martini

Get that gin out of my face…it’s the vodka I want!

The Vodka Martini – the drink of James Bond, and a favorite of the Viceroy - is certainly a fine drink to have in any season or at any time. Whether you drink a ‘tini at the ballyhooed Mayflower Hotel on Connecticut Ave in downtown Washington DC (where the menu boasts 101 different ‘tinis!) or in your closet as you weep yourself to sleep, you can’t help feeling so clean. The martini is cold and crisp and has the same effect as a hot shower on a cool autumn night. It cleanses and liberates all while inebriating the fortunate drinker…”give me another” you sneer as the bartender walks by, “and make this one STIFF”. It becomes you, it is you, it is me and I am you…puppy dog, jungle Jim makes me blue.

Ladies, take your pick from any number of “fruit-tinis” while your gentleman drinks his straight. I, personally, prefer an Absolute Kurant as the libation to mix with my vermouth…but please don’t mix in TOO much vermouth! The perfect martini requires but a “whisker” of the Italian concoction; it is simply a deterrent to combat the intense taste of liquor that’s about to enter your mouth.

I raise my (martini) glass to the martini for being the Viceroy’s "Slam Dunk Drink of the Week”
